Dig Rotary

Kalispell’s local Rotary Club hosts an annual event to play with big toys to raise funds for a splash pad for the kids of the Flathead Valley. My father-in-law’s employer is a major sponsor of the event and treated us with tickets. I had no idea what to expect but the day turned out as a complete win for Rost. We’re already all looking forward to next year’s event.

Biking the Sun (part 2)

A second trip to bike the Going to the Sun Road had me turned around before reaching the end point yet again. My first trip out was rained out – something I now need to take into account when adventuring with Rost. This time, a grizzly bear decided the road was (rightfully) his (or hers). Another day, another adventure! Guess I’ll just have to try again.

Biking the Sun

Living only thirty minutes outside of Glacier National Park definitely has its benefits. One of those is quick and easy access to the Going to the Sun road.

Each year the road opens first to hikers and bikers. I’ve had the chance to bike the road during this time once before when I lived in Missoula. This particular trip biking the road was rained out but I plan on taking full advantage of the close proximity for years to come.

16 Months Old

As a new(ish) parent, I often find myself in awe of how quickly time passes when it comes to watching Rost grow. Each milestone is a cause for celebration, and today, we mark another special one: turning 16 months old. It’s a magical time in life, filled with endless discoveries, burgeoning independence, and boundless curiosity. From their insatiable curiosity to their emerging language skills, each day brings new discoveries and achievements for Rost.

Easter ’23

I have to say that this was the first holiday where Rost was really catching on to the festivities. He was wildly confused by the Easter basket left out for him but equally happy to get lots of fun treats and toys. Side note: Rost’s easter basket was actually mine as a little girl. 🙂

Baskets were followed up with a fun, bunny-themed breakfast, which I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty proud of myself for pulling this off.

After breakfast, we all headed over to Grandma & Grandpa’s house for a second basket (from them). The Grandpa bunny left a trail of eggs to help Rost find his way.

We participated in a group egg hunt at Lone Pine State Park that turned out to be an eggcellent event for all ages but especially for younger kids.

Wild Horse Hot Springs

The moment you slip into those soothing waters, the worries and stresses just melt away. The earthy scent, the gentle heat, and the mineral-infused waters create a unique symphony of relaxation for both body and soul. It’s a special kind of serenity that only those who’ve immersed themselves in hot springs can truly understand. While I prefer natural hot springs out in the middle of nowhere, I’m not one to pass up the chance to sit in hot water since our home no longer has the creature comforts of a tub.

14 Months Old

The last month has definitely centered around spending time with family and friends.

Sadly, it also included Rost’s first trip (of what I’m sure will be many for this little mountain goat) to the ER. After exhibiting a fever of 102.8 and difficulty breathing we took him in one night. After 4 hours of waiting we got the diagnosis of an ear infection. Due to my history of ear infections as a child, which resulted in multiple sets of tubes, I hope this kid has his father’s ear canals.

Kiwis in Montana

We missed the wedding of our wonderful friends in New Zealand due to Covid lockdowns. Thankfully (for us), this also caused them to pause their honeymoon plans, which correlated with our move back to Montana. We spent a wonderful day hanging out with them in Kalispell before their great North American road trip continued.

First Christmas

Christmas through a child’s eyes encapsulates pure, unadulterated magic. Their innocent wonder as they gaze at twinkling lights and vibrant ornaments reflects the enchantment of discovery. The tiniest joys—a colorful gift wrap, a soft melody—evoke radiant smiles, echoing the joy of a season dedicated to love and togetherness.

Having a child infuses traditions with newfound meaning, as our family gathers closer, bound by the promise of shared memories. The exchange of gifts becomes a language of affection, a way to express hopes and dreams for this precious life. As Rost experiences the warmth of hugs and the joy of laughter, he unknowingly became the centerpiece of a tapestry woven with love, marking the beginning of a journey through festive seasons.

In these fleeting moments, the magic of Rost’s first Christmas becomes a timeless reminder of the extraordinary beauty that simplicity and innocence bring to life’s celebrations. I am already excited about next year’s holiday season.
